Healthy cooking!
Hey moms! In light of our healthy eating theme last month I decided to try out a few recipe substitutions. I tried the Creamed soup substitute and a homemade taco seasoning.
Here is the link to the blog where I got the taco seasoning recipe. I haven't tried the ranch mix or the onion soup but if someone tries it out let us know how it goes! I really liked the flavor of the taco seasoning. I chose this one because it didn't have any red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper. I am not one for spicy things and this one is pretty mild. My hubby said it wasn't "taco-ey" enough so I think next time I'll just use more of the mix. This recipe makes one serving and there's not very much of it so my plan is to make several servings at once and just use the equivalent of about 1 1/2.
The other recipe I tried was for a creamed soup substitute and I absolutely LOVE it! I have used it every time a recipe calls for creamed soup (so far I have substituted for mushroom and chicken) and it always turns out great. There is a distinct difference in sodium that you can taste immediately and I really appreciate the over all flavor. Very savory :) The recipe gives a choice of a couple of herbs and I used Thyme just because I love the flavor. Tastes great in almost anything! I also didn't heat mine before adding to the dish but it's personal preference. Just one more step to eliminate and save time :) I figured its getting heated up when you cook it anyway so why bother. So far everything has turned out great!
I hope you enjoy these two recipes! If there are some recipes that you would like to share on our MOPS blog, please contact someone from the steering team and we'll be happy to add it for you! Happy cooking moms!
